Good morning Weng,

Is this in regards to property tax?

To enjoy owner occupier rate, owner has to physically occupy the premises. Usually its reflected on your NRIC. As you mentioned your children are occupied in your HDB. You wont be eligible to enjoy owner occupier rate for it.

Hi Weng,

1) Only the owner self occupying his/her own property can declare self-occupied.
2) If you occupy one and your spouse (co-owner) occupies another, under the eye of IRAS, it is still one property that is self-occupied.
3) The other property will deem as non-self occupied. A higher property tax rate is applied.
4) Same rule is applicable when one of the properties is left vacant

I believe you are referring to the property tax treatment?

Unfortunately no, even though both are occupied by your family, IRAS will only recognize one of the residential property as the owner-occupied property, which typically is the address on your IC and in the government database. The other property will be recognized as non-owner occupied and subjected to higher property tax rates.
