Hi to all agents,
Currently, I am a Singaporean working in overseas. I will be away for at least another 5 years. I like to hear some professional advices from you guys for some of my queries.
1. I never own any HDB or Private propety in S'pore. Which is the better investment option at the current tempo?
2. What is the current ruling if I buy a HDB now, when can I next commit on a private property?
3. If my commitment to a private property is around 1.2mil, where or which type of property is best investment for the next 5 yrs?
4. In terms for good rental yield, which type or which location should I consider?

Thanks for everyone who reply to this email.

Hi Chandra, committing to a HDB unit now will mean that you are now allowed to own any other property within the minimum occupation period of 5 years, and as you have mentioned, you will be away for at least another 5 years, which means if you were to purchase a HDB now, you will not be occupying the property for at least another 5 years and thus, will not fulfil the MOP (so you will not be eligible for private property).

Given the budget your have quoted, you actually have quite a good variety of options for private property. You may opt to purchase a smaller unit in a high demand area like East Coast with a higher price or a bigger unit in areas like Tampines, Pasir Ris and etc, at a lower quantum. Since you are considering renting, it will be good if you can get a unit that is near public transport system (MRT, bus interchange).

Feel free to contact me should you require any further advise or assistance in securing a unit.
