Hi, I have rented a HDB unit in Aug 2021. My landlord contacted me directly and told us a lot of his sad story, asking he would like to sell the unit after CNY, possible for us to hand over early. After some time, he called again to mentioned the selling price unable to meet the targeting price that he wants. He would like to move back to his unit. As he is in his 70s, and we are in the middle of confirming a unit, thus we agree to him that we will try and see whether we can do so because I am giving extension stay to the seller of my purchases unit. He even told us, he does not like the service given by the rental agent, maybe we can settle between ourselves. somewhere in Oct, we managed to confirm that we could hand over to him in Feb and he has agree to refund the deposit as he was the one who asked us to end the tenancy earlier. The above are all verbal agreement. Unfortunately, he is making use of my sympathy, once I have arranged myself to move out coming Feb, he informed the rental agent that I am the one who requested to move out, thus he will not refund my deposit. The agent find it fishy too as the landlord put up the house for sale in last Oct without informing him. The photos of the house posted in ad were taken with my permission while I am in the of my house moving into the rental unit. I know i may have no chance to proof myself as I do not have an evidence to proof about the verbal agreement, but the landlord have no evidence to proof that I am the one who wanted to move out early. I have prepared myself to lose the deposit, but I feel upset that he is making use of my sympathy, cheated me to allow house viewing by his appointed selling agents and deposit in such a manner.
