Hi, I am looking to buy a new condo but have one currently under me and my wife's name. Because of the additional stamp duty, & I would want to avoid it, could I transfer this property to my wive? I know that we will be subjected to buyer stamp duty but it is definitely cheaper then the 7% additional stamp duty of a second property. ( We don't have to pay seller duty because our condo was purchased before 2010 ) However, I wanted to ask if I would to transfer this condo to my wive's name, would the seller stamp duty be applicable when my wive wants to sell the condo in a year time. ( Meaning, does me transferring the condo be considered the day that she buys the condo ). Also, how long would this process take? Thank you & sorry for my messy explanation. Thanks !

Hi

Yes, your wife will definitely need to pay the seller stamp duty as long as she try to sell the unit between the first to the fourth year.
