1) They have lots of options due to their high profile.
(a) Resale HDB collect grant: $40k family grant, $20k proximity grant
(b) Resale EC to enjoy a private residential facility at a lower price.
(c) New EC to enjoy private residences facility at a lower price and able to upgrade to private in 5 yrs time with capital appreciation.
(d) New launch private to take advantage of the upward property trend at an earlier date.
2) If just by considering their immediate needs, options 1(a) & (b) is a good choice. But have to throw in another $40k~$50k for renovation.
3) If considering the long-term plan, options 1(c) & 1(d) would be a better choice, because (a) & (b) only take care of their immediate needs. They will have to prepare not to gain from the property.
4) A normal person only buys property twice or 3 times in their whole life. The reason is that human is an adaptive animal. We prefer to stay in our comfort zone especially as a family. We don't like changes definitely don't like to shift a lot.
5) So should take every purchase as seriously as possible so as to gain as much as possible from every shift.
