Understand that one has to sell his/her EC within 6 months after purchase a HDB unit

Questions:

1) what are the various penalty for failing to sell off the EC within 6 months?

2) what are the longest extension you had heard of after 6 months?

3) what can the authorities do should one is not able to sell the EC?
