Converting to singapore citizen. I m married to a sporean man with 5 yrs old kid. Now bought n stay in a hdb 4 rooms resale flat. And I hv a foreign property. So what is the consideration. I know even i convert to spore citizen. I still can own foreign property. But boils down to owning a hdb . Must I sell off the foreign property first or can't even own one unless I sell off . Is there a waiting period of 15months to qualify for hdb flat. Hearf now govt want to reduce tge waiting time but limited to maybe 3 to 4 brm hdb.What about I m staying in hdb flat under pr status. If I become a citizen . Must I sell off the foreign property.

When you convert to Singapore citizenship and already own a HDB resale flat, here’s what to consider:
1. Foreign Property Ownership – As a Singapore citizen, you can still own property overseas. There’s no rule forcing you to sell foreign property unless you’re applying for a new HDB flat.
2. HDB Ownership Rules – To buy a HDB flat as a Singapore citizen, you cannot own any private property locally or overseas at the time of purchase. Since you already have foreign property, if you want to buy a new HDB, you would likely need to dispose of it first.
3. Waiting Period – For PRs buying HDB resale, there’s a 3-5 year MOP rule. For Singapore citizens, the resale application waiting period is usually 15 months from marriage, though there are updates and exemptions depending on flat type (smaller flats may have shorter wait).
4. Current HDB Flat under PR Status – If you stay in the same flat and just convert to citizen, you do not need to sell the foreign property. The issue only arises if you intend to purchase another HDB.

In short: converting to citizen doesn’t force you to sell your foreign property as long as you’re staying in your existing HDB. The sale only matters if you want to purchase another HDB.

Hi,

1) First of all, you can still own an HDB flat with your current PR status.
2) If you wished to upgrade to a bigger flat or just to change a location by buying another flat, you will have to let go of your overseas residential property.
3) Do note that I had highlighted residential property. If your property is a non-residential property, you are fine to keep it and still eligible to buy another flat.
4) I assume yours is a residential property, then, you will have to observe a 15-month wait-out period after completion of the sale before eligible to buy a resale flat without grants.
5) If you wished to have grants for the next resale flat or applying for a BTO/SBF, you will have to observe a 30-month wait-out period after completion of the sale before eligible to buy or apply.
6) Note that the counting only start from the completion of the sale and not the exercise date.
7) You will be reminded for the above once you apply for an HFE which is valid for both resale flat and BTO/SBF.
8) You will be allowed to own a private residential property both in local and overseas once you had completed the MOP.
