There is no problem for a person who owns private property to buy a resale HDB. However, if buying the resale HDB with a HDB housing grant or HDB loan, the rules below apply:
Applicants who are successful in getting the CPF Housing Grant are considered as having enjoyed a first flat bought directly from HDB.
They are to:
Fulfill a minimum occupation period of 5 years.
Wait 5 years before submitting an application to HDB for a second direct purchase flat.
Not invest in any private property during the 5 years occupation period.
Pay a resale levy upon selling the flat if purchasing another direct purchase flat. (Half-resale levy for Half-Housing Grant recipients).
If applicant is taking a HDB loan, he must
not own any private
residential property in or out of Singapore for the last 30 months.
