Hi Melvyn, for private unit you are free to do so but under HDB ruling, it is an offense as the new owner could only rent out the whole unit upon staying for 5 full years (MOP). Dear Mr. Melvyn Lim, Your case is quite common actually as usually one either accurately factors in his renovation period in his sale completion, delays submission of 1st Appointment, or requests buyer if he could allow to allocate one room to accommodate your belongings.
