Not many people think of Geylang as a retail hub, but you might be in for a surprise: By taking a 12-minute bus journey (or 20 minutes by foot), residents will be able to reach a cluster of shopping malls in Paya Lebar (Paya Lebar Square, Paya Lebar Quarter (PLQ), Singpost Centre, City Plaza, and Tanjong Katong Complex).
Most notably, PLQ opened not too long ago in late 2019, and comprises more than 200 stores, a gym, and an IMAX theatre!
Opposite Old Airport Road Food Centre
With over 150 stalls at this famous food centre, even if you tried one new stall a day, it’d take you almost half a year to get through them! And the best part is this: from fried kway teow to satay, many of the stalls are famous and high up on most foodies’ lists.
If you want something else for a change, there are many other food haunts in Geylang for you to explore, whether it’s delicious dim sum or frog porridge.

Dakota One is the most expensive project this August 2020 BTO sales launch, beating even Ang Mo Kio and Bishan.
Prices for the 3-room flats start at $355,000 at Dakota One. For Bishan Towers, it’s slightly cheaper at $302,000 (excluding grants). Kebun Bahru Edge’s (at Ang Mo Kio) cheapest unit is $423,000, but that’s because there are no 3-room units. If we do an apple-to-apple comparison, 4-room flats at Dakota One begin at a whopping $523,000.
Conclusion: Should you try for the Dakota One Geylang BTO in August 2020?
Given the unsavoury associations many have with Geylang, it’s not uncommon for people to have reservations about living there. However, with what the Geylang BTO flats have to offer, it’s likely that some may think twice: there’s great food and good access to amenities, all within a location that’s pretty central and accessible.
However, one drawback is that only 420 units will be offered, with only 3-room and 4-room flats to be made available. As such, those looking for bigger flats may have to consider other BTO estates.
