The 350km High Speed Rail project is expected to reduce travel time between KL and Singapore to just 90 minutes.

The joint development partner (JDP) contract for the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore High Speed Rail (HSR) project has been awarded to a consortium comprising WSP Engineering Malaysia, Mott MacDonald Malaysia and Ernst & Young Advisory Services, announced Singapore’s Land Transport Authority (LTA) and Malaysia’s MyHSR Corp on Thursday (16 February).

The contract will see the consortium providing project management support and technical advice on HSR systems and operations. It will also develop the technical and safety standards to be adopted for the project.

The consortium will also help the project team, formed by the LTA and MyHSR, with the preparation of documents for the upcoming tenders relating to the joint aspects of the project.

“Following the commitment of the two governments through the bilateral agreement signing, the JDP appointment marks the start of a challenging yet exciting journey to bring the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore HSR project to reality,” said MyHSR CEO, Mohd Nur Ismal Mohamed Kamal.

“With the collective expertise and extensive experience of the consortium in HSR projects internationally, MyHSR and LTA will be able to kick-start the preparation of upcoming joint tenders for this strategic project,” said Ngien Hoon Ping, LTA’s CEO.

Described as one of the biggest in the world, the railway tender “attracted global attention, and we seek to get the best players to take part in this game-changing project”, wrote Transport Minister and Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure, Khaw Boon Wan, in a Facebook post.

He noted that the “Two nations, one journey” tagline of the winning consortium is apt for the HSR project, reported Channel NewsAsia.

In December 2016, Singapore and Malaysia inked a bilateral agreement on the HSR project. Set to be completed in 2026, the 350km rail project is expected to reduce travel time between KL and Singapore to just 90 minutes.
