I would strongly advise to paint the house in a neutral colour. This will help to make the house look fresher and give a better first impression.

I have recently also advised a client to do painting of their house. I sold the house within 2 weeks of it being painted. It does make a huge difference.

Any improvements made to the existing conditions of house will definitely enhance the marketing and presentation process, nevertheless, it is not the most critical factor. This process does not guarantee you selling at a faster pace or higher price, but probably position your unit in higher preference order for prospective buyers who have also viewed other places and are doing comparison.

Imagine 2 units of 3 room flat A & B in the same location and floor level both asking for the same price, but unit A is repainted and unit B is dirty, what are the chances that a buyer will choose unit B over unit A?

As such, I always advise clients to provide me more details on their unit for sale, their objective of selling and some financial planning, such that I am able to look into compilation of raw data like recent comparable transactions, the current supply in market to establish the supply versus demand factor in order to get an in-depth understanding on the current situation and look into positioning the property right in the market. This is the reason behind why I am able to transact units with only 1 viewing done with marketing period of under 1 week for some projects where strong demand and low supply is observed. Even for unit which has history of unlicensed money lending issues, I have also managed to secure an offer for my seller within a matter of 1 month.
