Those "beings" most of them should not be hostile. They should be respected and through some religious or spiritual ceremonys, mediation, ritual, negotiations. Depending what is believed, to make peace is better than to have war. So religious or spiritual rituals or good deeds done to dedicate merits for them to gain and so that they would leave the people in the house alone, and also, to dedicate merits so that they have enough merits to go to next life is important...(depending on what religion or stand you believe)..
