When i was 18, my parents split up. They owned a 4-room BTO HDB together. My mother (SPR) had to buy my father's (SC) share out and add my name as second-owner of our HDB in order to form a family nucleus. I am SC.
Fast forward to today, I married an SPR. We do not have children. We are not eligible to buy a HDB because of the above and we had no choice but to buy a private property solely under my husband's name.
My mother is independent and lives by herself in the HDB unit (now fully paid). She is of the Merdeka generation where property ownership very important to her. It provides her with a sense of independence, stability and pride. Basically she's not keen to move in with her children. However as she plans for old age, she would like to downgrade to a smaller HDB and/or move closer to her kids.
Question:
Given that she's now a retired SPR and she's not allowed to own a HDB as sole owner. Is it possible for me and her (married child and parent) to buy another HDB together / joint-ownership? Of course we intend to dispose off the first HDB and the loan of the new HDB will be financed by me.
Does my marital status impact this option?
Does the fact that my husband owns a private property affect this?
