Hi,

You may be required to sell away the HDB since you guys are no longer eligible to keep the flat. (need SPR SPR married couple of 3 years SPR status to be eligible). Hope the above clarifies. Eligibility to Retain the HDB Flat: The ability to retain the HDB flat largely depends on the remaining owner's citizenship status and whether the flat was purchased directly from HDB or from the resale market with the CPF Housing Grant.

If the remaining owner is a Singapore Citizen: Generally, you should be able to retain ownership of the HDB flat. Singapore Citizens have more leeway in terms of property ownership rules compared to PRs.

If the remaining owner is a Non-Citizen (including PRs): You might face eligibility issues. Non-Citizens, including PRs, are subject to more restrictions in owning HDB flats. Minimum Occupation Period (MOP): Regardless of the change in PR status, you are still required to fulfill the MOP if you have not already done so. The MOP is typically 5 years from the date of possession of the flat.

Change in Subsidies or Grants: If you purchased the flat with the use of CPF Housing Grants, there might be implications on these grants, especially if they were specific to PR households. It's advisable to check with HDB or the CPF Board for any adjustments that might need to be made.

Updating HDB: It’s important to inform HDB about the change in PR status of any flat owner. They will then advise on the next steps and whether any actions need to be taken regarding your flat.

Potential Need to Sell: In some cases, especially where eligibility criteria are no longer met, HDB may require you to sell the flat. This usually happens in situations where neither owner is a Singapore Citizen.

Hi Sir/Mdm,

If both of you are SPRs and one of you were to give up the PR status, HDB will require you to sell the unit in the open market if the MOP has been fulfilled as you will not be able to continue holding on to the flat as a single SPR.
