What is exact definition of "sublet HDB"? My family is moving out to US long term due to work. And we haven't meet MOP (only stayed in for half year). HDB rejected my application to sublet. Instead of just leave my whole flat vacant, can I let my good friend to stay in my flat and take care of my flat? If there is totally no money (any form of rental) involved, will it still be considered illegal "sublet"? Thanks.

Morning Flora,

HDB is considered as leasehold units where HDB is the landlord and we are the "leasee". Since you have work committment in US, you can write to HDB to request to sublet your unit during your period of absence. However, your company is required to produce the necessary document for the request. Do also note that the period of subletting out your unit will not be included to the 5 years MOP which you are to fulfill.
