We've sold our EC and downgrade to a HDB 5-room resale flat a year ago. The current flat is registered under my name as the sole owner.
Can my wife buy a private property since she doesn't own any property now?

Hi,

Unfortunately nope, she is an essential occupier essential to the family nucleus of HDB eligibility, hence she also has to fulfil MOP of 5 years before she can purchase the next residential property.

Sorry to inform you that she has to wait out the 5 years minimum occupier along with you before she can purchase a private property.

Hi,

1) Once you bought an HDB flat, you will have to observe the HDB policy.
2) A married couple is considered a single entity.
3) So both have to observe the 5 yrs MOP regardless of whether they are the owner or just an occupier.
4) Therefore although your wife didn't have any ownership of the current flat. She will still have to observe the 5 yrs MOP like you.
5) No one who lives in the HDB flat suppose to buy any private residential property locally and overseas during MOP under the HDB policy.
6) She may buy a residential property after completion of the MOP.
