We have 21 months on our HDB MOP, but we want to rent a private property for primary school admission while adding my parents as occupiers in my HDB to live in it. We do not intend to rent the HDB out. Is that legal?

Hi there, In order to rent another property before the MOP of your HDB, you would have to write in and seek HDB permission. Do bear in mind for the duration of your rental will not be consider as part of your MOP.
You can also consider other options such as appealing for early sales or doing your parents name for your intended property rental.

No, this is against the regulations. HDB Minimum Occupation Period means the owners need to physically stay in the property, What you can do is rent another private property under your parents names, and then register your parents as the caretakers for your child. Need to take note however that your child will likely not be eligible for any after school care services in this manner.

Hi, it is not legal to rent any property during MOP, only option is to put your parents as caretaker, and get them to be the ones renting the private property. Alternative is to write in to HDB to appeal this, and see if there's any other options.

Hi,

Technically during HDB MOP period you are not allowed to go out to rent another private property and will be required to stay in your HDB.

To rent another private property within MOP period, you need to write to HDB to appeal on this, and if successful your MOP computation will most likely be paused for the period you are renting private property elsewhere.

The other way, as suggested by my colleagues, will be to rent under your parents name and register them as caretaker for your kids, for primary school registration. Do note however that your child will likely not be eligible for any after school care services if you go for such arrangements.
