We are an unmarried couple (SC + SPR). I (SC) would like to purchase an EC resale that has MOP-ed under my name only. My unmarried partner will contribute to the purchase but will not be a co-owner to avoid the ABSD. A few questions:

1. When I purchase a resale EC under my name, Would my unmarried SPR partner be able to contribute CPF funds as well?

2. How can I give my partner legal protection on rights to the property without direct ownership? We prefer to have the property only under 1 name.

3. Believe 99-1 does not work as we are unmarried, thus no ABSD remission applicable when we make the purchase. Are there alternative ways to go about doing this?

Hi,

To be able to use CPF OA for the purchase, one needs to be the owner as well. I may have a solution for your plans, perhaps you could share more info so to see if the solution fits?

1. Your SPR partner would not be able to contribute to the payment using his CPF as he is not one of the owners of the property.

2. Unfortunately only the legal owner would have the claim to the property.

I fully understand your concern on it. As your partner is not the owner, she won't be able to assist to finance the unit with CPF and won't have legal rights to the unit. I have an alternative solution to enable your partner to finance and have legal rights to the unit but at the same time reducing the amount of stamp duty you have to pay.
