The option to sell my HDB has been exercised. I am now waiting for HDB's acceptance . Meanwhile, i found out that the buyer wants to add his wife as a co-owner of the HDB as she just received her PR status. The initial Option agreement has the Buyer's name only. Is this a bridge of the terms and condition of the Option agreement? This additional add on will cause a delay in HDB's acceptance . As a seller, do i have the right to back out from the sale ? Reason that i cannot allow the delay as i have found a new place and would like to issue the option asap but with this add on, it will delay the process and i will not make it in time to issue the option. Appreciate your advise. Thanks

Dear seller,

Since you have indicated that you have found a new place, wouldn't it cause more delay if you back out from this sale now since you have mentioned that you like to issue the option asap and you will not make it in time to issue the option? The Option To Purchase once inked cannot be changed if it has already been exercised and any changes has to be approved by both seller and buyer as well as HDB. In this event, you should speak to the buyer to delay the addition of his wife in as a co-owner to after the completion of sale. Communication is key when it comes to such incidents, perhaps you may also wish to hear out why is the buyer looking to add the wife name in at this junction.

Check with HDB as well on this potential change and how long it may take to work out the timeline. There is no certainty at this juncture to advise anything as it is not within your hands or the buyers' hands to change.

    My opinion doesn't matter, but you can raise your objection to HDB on this matter and see what can be done to expedite matters. It could be just a matter of 1 to 2 weeks difference, versus if you rescind the agreement, you will need to restart marketing and looking for another buyer.

    The reason the buyer wish to add the wife is they will be given a grant of sgd 25k if the name is added before completion. This is what im told. Is HDB acting appropriately by allowing changes after Option is exercised? As you mentioned the Option is inked and binding, HDB should not allow any changes to be fair to both parties. What is your opinion in this matter?
