Hi Ali baba,

I am unsure what are you trying to derive at with such a question that many SPRs are buying HDB despite having properties in their own countries, how did you know about this? Or what are your concerns?

At the end of the day, if you are a SPR mentioned above, will it be a concern if somehow HDB does find out that you have an overseas property and repossess your HDB after paying a significant amount of money? HDB does not have a liberty to declare how they are going to check but since they have such a requirement stated up front, I would not wish to put any doubts on their capability to check. Nevertheless, since such a system is ultimately managed by human, there could be some slip through along the way.

    What are my concerns? Foreigner PRs buying public housing drive up Singapore public housing prices, that is my concern as a Singaporean.

1) I would recommend you approach the HDB for a correct answer.
2) Since it is the HDB that is conducting the check and as an agent, we do not have an insight into the HDB tools, systems, and capacity in conducting the check.
3) But just for info, I'm aware that some of the property info could be flagged out from running an Anti-Money laundry check on the web.

Hello,

I think this would be a concerned feedback on the enforcement policies under HDB's purview. It is more targeted towards enforcement methods and policies from the authorities and as agents, we do not have the answer to your question.

What we do know is that there will be strict anti-money laundering and counter terrorism financing checks when purchasing a property, so any undeclared assets might be flagged out during such a procedure.
