Orphan scheme eligible for BTO? : Hi! So basically, my friend's parents are no longer around, and she plans to take ownership of the house. But as you know, she won't be able to apply for a BTO for 5 years... Given that she is an orphan and is planning to apply for this scheme, would it allow her to take a BTO rather than serve the 5 years? If not, are there any other alternative options?

I do not really understand the question. How old is your friend and is she married and a Singapore Citizen? Read More

    Hi there,

Firstly, sorry to hear about your friend's circumstances.

There are 2 parts to your question :
    1. Your friend plans to take ownership of her deceased parents' home - if your friend is a minor ie. below 21 years of age , the guardian named in her parent's will may manage the inheritance until your friend turns 21 years old. If your friend is above 21 years of age, HDB may allow change the flat ownership if it is due to reasons acceptable by HDB, subject to HDB's approval.

    2. If your friend plans to apply for BTO, she has to fulfill HDB's eligibility to apply for one. There are various schemes she may apply under eg. fiance & fiancee scheme, orphaned singles scheme, etc.

Do feel free to reach out to me for a more in depth discussion.

    Cheers.
