Good morning Kok Wei,

minimum HDB rental duration is 6 months so it's not possible to rent 2 to 3 months from seller. Unless you can find a vacant unit for sale and able to take on 6 months rental and completion ends after the lease then shouldnt be an issue.

Have you speak to your landlord to extend for a few months after May 2023?

Or should we look for an unit asap? How come you wish to secure an unit by April 2023?

Hello
The seller cannot rent the unit to you for 2-3 mths as that is illegal for HDB rental. HDB rental minimum term is 6 mths.

Therefore you need to time your buying and selling timing as closely as possible.

Hi Kok Wei,

1) A legal HDB rental period is a minimum of 6 months.
2) To rent from a seller is possible as long as they agree, but this will not change the minimum rental period.
3) In order for you to have more options in choosing your purchase, I would suggest you discuss with your current landlord to extend a few months rather than signing a complete 1 yr contract.
