She can appeal definitely but it is still up to HDB to approve her case, and I heard that the number of successful cases are not high.

Regardless, she should just try to do so.

Hi,

Yes she has to appeal first on whether she can purchase. The current regulation is she needs to sell or transfer away all overseas properties, wait out 15 months, before she can purchase any resale HDB. To purchase resale HDB first, she will have to appeal with HDB on the reasons, but chances may not be high.

Hi Alex,

I can understand your frustration as HDB changes their rules and policies from time to time to keep abreast with the property market conditions in Singapore. We property agents have to keep ourselves updated with the latest changes to prevent misrepresentation to our clients.

Based on the latest HDB rules as of 9th Sept 2024, your sister will have to dispose off all her private properties both locally and overseas, and serve a wait-out period of 15 months, before she can apply for her HFE to purchase a HDB flat.

She can appeal to HDB for this waiver, but it will still be subjected to HDB approval on a case-by-case basis.

Alternatively, she may also consider to purchase a private property too. No ABSD for Singaporeans purchasing their first residential property in Singapore.
