My parents have this understanding that their HDB 4 room flat can pass down to us when they pass on. Is this true or shall they sell it off instead?

My brother is already marry and he already have a HDB flat on their own. I am getting marry end of this year and I already purchase a condo. My understanding is that both of us will not be able to inherit the flat from our parent since we already own a flat.

My parent will like to know if the HDB board will take back the flat and not compensate us (sons)? Shall we cash out the flat and move to a smaller flat? Will HDB allow the son to inherit and give them 6mths time frame to offload the flat instead?

Morning,

Your parents have to rights to WILL their HDB unit to their children. The child can then keep the HDB unit if they fulfill the requirements set by HDB. Your brother is not eligible to keep the unit as he already have his own HDB unit in hand unless he intend it sell away. This is also provided that he have fulfilled his MOP requirement. As for you, if you do choose to keep the HDB unit, you are required to sell away your HDB unit within 6 months, from date of transmission. Alternatively, you can try to write into HDB and appeal for your case. I have heard of some success stories but I'm not sure how long it took.

Do feel free to contact me for further discussion.
