My mum is a PR and i and my brother is a citizen. My mom inherited the house from my dad when he passed away 4-5 years ago hence my mom is the main owner of the flat now. Curious to know - once me and my brother moved out from the flat - can my mom as a PR continue living in the home alone? What's gonna happen then if there's anything?

Good morning,

single SPR is not eligible to own a HDB. I believe either you or both of you are essential occupier(s) of property therefore your mother is eligible to hold on the property at the moment.

It will be best to speak/ appeal to HDB if she is eligible to own it by herself if both of you decide to purchase your own housing in future (taking name out of existing HDB).

Hi Sir/Mdm,

As a SPR, your mum is not able to hold the HDB under her sole name. Therefore, if your brother wants to purchase a HDB using his own name, it is likely that your mum will need to sell away the HDB flat.

- Your mother needs to be the owner of the property, with either both of you brothers or one of you as essential occupiers, to retain the HDB.

- If both of you are moving out and buying your own place, your mother will be required to sell the HDB.
