Am so sorry to hear about your situation and I hope the family is coping well. If this HDB purchase has outstanding loan, chances are there will be home protection scheme in place, where it is a mortgage-reducing insurance that protects members and their families against losing their HDB flat in the event of death, terminal illness or total permanent disability. HPS insures members up to age 65 or until the housing loans are paid up, whichever is earlier.​

You may wish to check with CPF or the bank where the loan was taken to find out more details about the insurer details and find out more.

Alternatively did you guys buy any mortgage insurance?

If not approach HDB branch office and explain your plight and see what could be best be achieved from your situation.

By selling your existing house might not always be the best option.
