My husband and myself (both Singaporeans) working overseas at present, have our BTO ready in 2028. We are thinking of buying overseas property especially while waiting for BTO and not renting since we are working overseas. We have been working overseas for quite some time, so our CPF contributions are very minimal so mostly cash payment/bank loan when collecting keys. If we switch to one person as owner, and one person as occupier, can the occupier buy property overseas?

Unfortunately the answer is no. You can only buy after this current BTO has met MOP

You are unable to switch on the ownership for HDB unless of valid reasons which usually for children buying their own place or due to marital issues.

Also, even if you are granted the approval to switch to 1 owner and 1 essential occupier, both will still need to observe the MOP, meaning from now until you fulfill the MOP, you are not allowed to own any other residential properties. Read More
