Hi Kimo,

Under the current HDB rules and regulations, you will not be able to convert your husband from an owner to an occupier. Therefore, in order to own 2 properties, I would advise my clients to either sell the current one and try to buy 2 private properties if they can afford comfortably or buy another HDB with 1 as owner and the other as occupier and use the occupier name to buy a private property without ABSD after the 5 years MOP.

Dear madam,

Unfortunately this plan came in too late. HDB used to allow decoupling, however, have stopped allowing so for a while, therefore such arrangements will not be approved. Regardless, you may still wish to appeal and see it turns out.

The alternative is to sell the current property to buy 2 separate units, 1 for own stay and the other for rental which can be a smaller unit if finances allow.

Hi

This is transfer of ownership but unfortunately HDB no longer allows this unless for special circumstances such as sudden financial hardship, divorce or demise of co owner. To change to occupier mainly to buy a 2nd property has been disallowed.

To get 2 properties without paying the ABSD, you can consider selling the existing HDB, buy under owner occupier approach for next property, then have the occupier get 2nd residential property after 5 years MOP is fulfilled.

Or if the finances allow, to sell and buy 2 private properties individually, one for own stay, one for investment play.

If you wish to own 2 properties, one way would be to sell off your current HDB flat, and then from the sale proceeds, purchase 1 private property each. One for your own stay, the other for investment purpose.
