My husband and I are currently waiting to collect our keys for our BTO. Can we add my parent's name as co-owners? My parents would be selling their existing HDB and downgrading to move in with us.

Hi, this would require there to be substantial reasoning in adding their names to the flat.

Hi,

Its possible but not recommended though unless you need their CPF to fund the property. You can also add them as occupiers as well. Is there an immediate need to cash out their property for retirement funds? Otherwise good to keep the 2nd property for rental income, or if really selling, their names free for investment property if the opportunity arises.

Such arrangement will require HDB's approval. Why would you want such an arrangement? Even if they are not added as co-owners, they can still move in with you at the BTO.

Hi,

1) I can't see the benefit of adding their names as co-owners unless you need them to fund your purchase.
2) According to the HDB, there shall not be changes in the applicants other than unforesee life event.
3) If it is due to financial difficulties that such a move is evidently justified to solve your problem. Then you can appeal through the feedback channel and plead for leniancy.
4) Do note that adding name after signing the agreement of lease, it will be considered as a part-share selling. Your parents are subject to the buyer stamp duty.
