My friend owns a 4-rooms flat with his sister, both of them are single, and he intends to marry a divorcee who owns a 2-rooms HDB flat. If they get married, and he is not a co-owner of the 2-rooms flat and neither is she a co-owner of the 4-rooms flat, do they have to sell off one of the flat after they get married? How will HDB knows if they have 2 flats if their name are registered only in one of the flat? If they have to sell off one of the flat after marriage, what is the time frame they would be given to dispose of the flat after their marriage?

Afternoon Jenny,

Once your friend and his spouse get married, they are suppose to inform HDB about their union. With that, they have 6 months to dispose of either unit.

Hi Ms Jenny

Your question raised and yes within 6 months you have to dispose either one of the property.

You can sell part share of the joint flat or buy over from the other sister, then sell off the 2 room's.

As to whether HDB will find out one family owning two flats, my answer is, "Yes, they can trace", and it is an offence if you did not inform HDB of your changed status. =)
