Asked by
My fiancee (SC) and I (SPR) are intending to purchase a HDB resale flat as our matrimonial home and I am thinking of putting my parents (both SPR) as our new flat's essential occupier in order for us to apply for the proximity housing grant (PHG)

My parents owns a private property in SG which they are not occupying since they are mostly overseas and is now being occupied by my brother and SIL (SC/PR couple). they do not intend to sell the private property anytime soon.

Is it possible to include my parents as the essential occupier and be applicable for the PHG as they intend to stay with me whenever they come back to SG

Thanks

Regards
Michael

Good afternoon Michael,

I do understand your intention to obtain the proximity housing grant by including your parents in the application but do take note that by doing so, your parents will have to sell their private property within 6 months from purchase completion date. Do refer to the link provided below. This will not be ideal for your parents.

Why not you give this a try?

Check with HDB whether is it okay to obtain proximity grant with your parents’ current property address even though they are currently overseas.

Hope my sharing helps in aiding in your enquiry. May I know how can I value add further in your property needs?

Best regards,

Hi Michael

A very good day to you.

I am afraid that your parents will have to sell their private property within 6 mths if you intend to put their names as the essential occupiers. I understand your good intentions.

If you dont mind, May I have more info and requirements about your plans so as to make better recommendations? Thanks and look forward to value-add to your housing plans.

Best regards

Hi Michael,

If you include your parents as the essential occupiers to enjoy the Proximity Housing Grant, they will have to sell off their private property (or transfer the ownership to your brother and sister-in-law), even though they are not staying there.

Also, they will have to fulfill the 5-year MOP together with you, before they are able to purchase another residential property.

I am experienced and well-versed in both HDB and private transactions. I will be able to assist you in your property plans. Please get in touch with me for a more in-depth discussion.

Should you need require further assistance in matters relating to property, please contact me at my mobile 9748 6305  . I will be happy to assess and share with you the possibilities for you in the current market.

Thank you.

Best regards,
