My family and I are moving from a private property to a resale jumbo as a family nucleus. My siblings and I are adults and may be getting married in less than 5 years. We intend to apply for BTO/resale flats when we are married.

(1) Is it possible for us not to be included as essential occupiers? We do not want to be restrained by the 5 year MOP.
(2) If we have to be included as EO, at what stage can we remove our names as EOs?

Hi,

To purchase the resale jumbo, only your parents names (married couple) are needed to form the family nucleus. Your names need not be included as essential occupier. I have assisted similar cases and would be happy to share the best approach.

Hi,

If your name is needed to be included as the essential occupier of the HDB flat, you will need to serve the 5-year MOP as well.

However, if your family members can qualify for the purchase under any of the Schemes without needing to include your name, they can go ahead with the purchase, without naming you as the essential occupier.
