My bf is turning 35 and wants to purchase a HDB under single scheme. I own a private property . Do I need to dispose my private property if we are settling down? Or is there a minimum holding period before he can marry me?

Hi
Currently, there is no regulation on the need to dispose off private property for couples where one owns a private property and another owns a HDB before marriage. As such, it is highly advisable for your boyfriend to proceed to purchase a HDB before marriage to avoid complications if he does it after marriage. In addition, he is also eligible for singles grant if he is a first timer. There is no such thing as minimum holding period before he is allowed to get married. I am specialise in HDB transactions and a vast majority of my buyer managed to secure a house without any COV depsite the seller's market situation nowadays. Hi,

1) A Singapore Citizen at and above 35 yrs old is eligible to buy an HDB flat under Single Citizen Scheme.
2) If buy after married, the spouse will automatically become the essential occupier if not the owner. An essential occupier will need to observe the same restriction as the owner.
3) If buy before married, there is only a sole owner. After married, the spouse will only become an occupier, because the spouse was not an essential element to be eligible to buy the HDB flat.
4) This was the main reason why you can still hold on to your private property.
5) Therefore you can get married immediately after the completion of the HDB buying process.

Hope the above answer your main concerns, but if there are more query, please feel free to contact me at 90110636  , or email: ling.ck7@gmail.com if more information is needed.
I'll be glad to assist.
