My aunt owns a HDB flat where my parents and I are currently residing in. What are the conditions for us to be added as occupiers? Are our incomes taken into consideration? The flat has reached its MOP. And what are the chances of us being approved as occupiers?

Your aunt can add regular occupiers to a HDB quite easily. A regular occupier is someone who resides in the flat but was not part of your aunt's original qualifying family nucleus - Like a tenant who is renting the flat, or perhaps you and your parents in this case.

If you are asking about essential occupiers or co-ownership, that is where there are more restrictions and considerations.

Importantly, you can avoid accidentally locking yourself into a new MOP and getting you, your parents and your aunt all stuck in the future with regards to potential property plans down the line.

Hi,

1) There are 2 ways of doing so:
(a) MYHDB: Using your aunt Singpass to log in MYHDB portal. She can add in occupier with reason, the HDB will approve accordingly.
(b) Physical: Schedule a physical visit to respective HDB branch office and ask help from the counter to add in.

2) The above is one of step to adhere to gov policy to include occupation in a flat.
3) To complete the whole process of notifying gov of current living address is to update your address at ICA website within 30 days upon shifting.

If the flat has already reached its MOP, your aunt can generally add family members as occupiers without too much trouble. HDB is quite straightforward on this part. Being an occupier doesn’t involve income checks, because occupiers are not buyers and they don’t affect CPF usage or loan eligibility. They’re simply registered as people living in the flat.

The key thing that HDB looks at is the relationship to the owner. Since you and your parents are her immediate relatives, this usually doesn’t raise issues. What your aunt needs to do is submit the request through MyHDBPage, and HDB will review it. Approval rate for cases like yours is usually very high unless there are unusual circumstances such as ownership of other HDB properties.

Being added as an occupier also doesn’t give you ownership rights, so your aunt remains the sole owner. It just formalises your residency for administrative purposes. Read More
