Hi Janani,

1) Yes, it is possible to buy a resale HDB flat when married to a foreigner under the Non-Citizen Spouse Scheme.

2) There are in general 2 types of situations that the HDB had listed; SC below 35 yrs old and SC at or above 35 yrs old.
(a) SC below 35 yrs old: Foreigner spouse must have Long Term Visit Social Pass (LTVP) or work permit.
(b) SC at or above 35 yrs old: Foreign spouse only needs a Social Visit Pass (VP) or work permit.

3) Both situations must already have marriage ready before submitting an intent to buy.
4) Both situations are also eligible for Single Grant ($25k), EHG (up to $40k), and PHG ($10k or $15k).
5) Under 2(b) situation also eligible to apply for a 2-rm BTO in a non-mature estate.

Are you a Singapore Citizen and are you looking to purchase the resale HDB before or after marriage? If you intend to do so before marriage, you will need to be at least 35 years of age in order to be eligible to purchase a resale HDB when you are 35 years old or older. If you are looking to purchase after marriage, you maybe eligible to purchase under the non-resident spouse scheme as what a number of my fellow professionals have mentioned, but 1 important note is that your spouse must not have owned any properties outside Singapore too, otherwise, these properties must first be sold and you will need to wait out for a period of 15 months before you are eligible to purchase a resale HDB.
