Hi Mr Ryan, For your case, you will definitely need to declare your overseas property. Since that house in Malaysia is meant for her parents to stay, you can try appealing to HDB to keep that property for the parents to stay. Of course all this is subjected to approval. You can still buy HDB flats with your wife but if the appeal fails, then you will have to dispose of that property within 6 months after getting the key to your house. When we declare that we do not have overseas property, we are making a statutory declaration and that equates to taking an oath. So the consequences are great when you declare that you have no overseas properties when you actually have. Please do not ever do that. Hope that clarifies. Thanks. Hi Ryan, Jeffrey is right. Do not hide the fact about that your spouse to be has a property in Malaysia. Instead, prepare whatever documents there are to prepare to show that the property is strictly meant for the parents to stay and appeal accordingly and react. As long as reason is genuine, I suppose HDB will be sensible to acknowledge the fact and approve accordingly. You may also wish to seek your MP for assistance if required. Evening Ryan, If you can provide documentation proof that the sole purpose of the Malaysian property is meant for her parents to stay, you can write into HDB to appeal for the case. I have heard of cases from my colleague where approval have being obtained to purchase HDB unit even though they had private property in their hometown.
