Hi,

Its possible to decouple, but not possible for hdb purchase, as to be eligible for a resale HDB, you need to purchase as a married entity using both husband and wife names. The alternative is to decouple out 1 of the names, and purchase under his/her sole name.

Hi Sir,

It is not possible, as you will need to sell off your private property within 6 months upon completion of your HDB purchase. This is because your wife will need to form a family nucleus with you for the purchase. If she's not the owner, she has to be the essential occupier. And both owner and essential occupier will need to dispose off all interests in private properties upon the HDB flat purchase.

I am afraid to inform you that your idea won't work because in order to purchase a resale HDB, you need to form a family nucleus with your wife.

And by doing so, you will have to sell off your private property within 6 months from resale HDB purchase completion. You will need to adhere to 5 years minimum occupation period before you can invest in any private residential property in Singapore or overseas.

Evening,

As you are married, HDB will not allow you to apply for a unit on your own. Your spouse have to be essential occupier. Given so, the private property on hand need to be sold in the event where you obtain a HDB unit.

Dear Sir,

I am afraid this arrangement is not possible as HDB requires you to purchase a HDB together with your wife. After the purchase, you will need to sell your private property within the next 6 months.

I have assisted clients who are in a similar situation as yourself. One option is to proceed with the decoupling and purchase a private property under the exiting party to avoid the need to pay ABSD. In this case, you will still be able to stay in one property while renting out the other to generate passive income.

Another option is to sell the current property and purchase 2 different properties, again one for own stay and one for rental and investment purpose.
