If I own a hdb that is still under MOP, is it legal to rent a private condo or HDB? Reason being I would like to let my aged and ailing MIL (who has no property under her name) to live in our house. If it’s ok, can I just go ahead or must get approval from HDB?

There is no specific instructions I can find restricting the home owner to rent another place, however, it is explicitly stated that the home owner will be required to physically stay in the property purchased within the 5 years period, therefore it is better that you check with HDB directly on this subject matter, given that I also understand that there are home owner who are in the MOP period having to relocate overseas during the period while leaving the property vacant.
