If i get $500k caah proceeds from selling my current hdb, and i intend to give this money to my widowed mum (essential occupier of my current flat) for her to purchase a resale 3 room hdb under her own name, single ownership, is this allowed? Must she wait until the completion of sale of my current flat before she can sign OTP to buy her 3 room flat? She cannot take any loan and needs to wait for my cash proceeds to finance for her 3 room flat.

Good morning Sir/ Mdm,

Is your mom a SC to be eligible to buy under single SC scheme?

If it's a full cash purchase and you are able to fund the upfront initial costs for her, the balance will be required on the completion date in form of cashier order.

Costs:
- $5,000 option deposit
- resale application fee $80
- legal fees
- agent's commission

Good morning,

If your mum is Singapore citizen, she as a widow is able to purchase the resale HDB under the single Singaporean citizen scheme. She need not wait until your flat sale is completed before signing the OTP for the next flat, its possible to secure early just that the timeline is tighter and must be coordinated well. At her 3-room flat completion a cashier's order will be required to complete the purchase for full cash arrangements.

Hi,

1) You may use your cash as per your wishes. No govt body can stop you from using it in any way as long as it is legal.
2) Giving money to parents is definitely not a criminal act.
3) For buying a resale HDB with cash only. She will need to prepare to pay the 15% down payment after both parties submitted the resale application.
4) Payment of stamp duty is within 14 days upon receiving approval from the HDB.
5) The final payment of the balance of 85% is around 3 weeks before the completion appointment.
6) As long as you time your transaction completion carefully she doesn't have to wait till your completion to place an offer for her buying.

Hi Sir/Mdm,

Sale proceeds from the sale of your HDB is your money and you can decide on the manner you wish to use the funds on. Your mum will be able to purchase a HDB flat under her sole name as long as she is a Singaporean.

Both the sale of your flat can be done concurrently with the purchase of her flat. However, she will need to have an upfront amount of $5,000 to pay the option fee and the exercise fee. With a planned timeline, she will be able to use the sale proceeds from your flat to finance her purchase. Do take note that timeline planning is important especially if she is staying with you now as you do not want her to end up in a situation where she needs to find a temporary place to stay.
