Good morning Ms,

Your husband's name must be included minimum as an essential occupier (minimally).

He can only purchase a private property after fulfilling the 5 years minimum occupation period with you. ABSD will not be applicable for SC for first property purchase.

Good morning,

Your husband's name must be added either as an owner or an essential occupier to be eligible as a family nucleus to purchase the HDB. If he is added as occupier, after fulfilling MOP of 5 years, he can purchase the next property as a 1st property without ABSD.

Dear sir/mdm,

First, in order to purchase a HDB, you must fulfil the eligibility requirements. It is possible to own under the wife's name solely for the HDB with the husband coming in as essential occupier. During the minimum occupation period, both husband and wife are not suppose to own any private residential property. Once the minimum occupation period is fulfilled, the husband can proceed to purchase a private residential property under his own name without ABSD applied.

Hi,

1) A married couple who bought an HDB will automatically be listed under the Public Scheme.
2) Meaning sole owner, but the spouse will be listed as an essential occupier.
3) An essential occupier will have to observe the same 5 yrs period (MOP: Minimum Occupation Period) as the owner.
4) Since the essential occupier has no property named under him. When he buys a private property later, he will not be subject to any ABSD if he is a Singapore Citizen.
5) If he is an SPR, he will still be subjected to an ABSD of 5%.

If the husband is listed as an essential occupier, then he could go ahead to purchase a private property upon the MOP of the existing HDB flat and no ABSD is involved.

Hi, I am Brendan!

Married lady can buy HDB under her name but her husband must be listed as an essential occupier. Which means the husband also must fulfil the 5 years MOP before able to purchase a private property without ABSD.

Alternatively, you guys can consider buying a private property under each name if financials allowed.
Or co-own a private property and decouple after 3 years to free up 1 name to own another private property.
