Good afternoon,

May I know if the existing HDB property is bought before 30 August 2010? If so, and its a non-subsidized flat, to my understanding you can inherit the HDB flat even if you own private property at the point of inheritance. It used to be that HDB has stated this on their website but now it seems to have disappeared, it may be advisable to clarify with HDB Branch on this. Another piece written by a law firm states the same.

If its bought after 30 Aug 2010, you cannot keep 2 properties and have to decide which property to sell at point of inheritance. HDB also does not allow 1 owner to own 2 HDBs at any one point of time, so definitely one of the HDB flats have to be sold upon inheritance, if you opt to purchase HDB flat now.

If its the former scenario, and for the above reasons, it may be better to opt for a condo since there is a possibility to inherit all the properties aforementioned.

If I read correctly from this site, it states that:

Owners of private property or owners who have disposed of a private property within the last 15 months may take over the ownership of an HDB flat if they meet the following:

- The existing flat owner has fulfilled the requisite occupation period
- At least 1 of the proposed owners is a Singapore Citizen
- All proposed owners and listed occupiers must continue to live in the flat upon the change in flat ownership.
