I have joint tenancy with my father for our 3-room flat. If I wish to buy an EC or DBSS, I assume I have to give up my joint tenancy and he becomes the sole owner? How does this affect my chances of CPF grant or housing loan? Thanks

Hi there,
There is a few questions to be address to before we can derive your chances of cpf housing grant as well as hdb loan.

1) Is the flat finance by your dad only or including you? if both are financing it, he will need to refund your portion paid. Also, if you are to purchase the EC/DBSS with a HDB Loan, this will be considered your 2nd HDB loan.

2) Is there any outstanding loan? if so, by transferring the ownership solely to your dad, is he able to take up a loan from the financial institution?

Since it is just transferring of ownership, you will still retain your 1st timer status. having said this, you are eligible for housing grant.

Last but not least,

Do give me a ring if you need any help.
Would be glad to guide you along

God Bless
