I have a HDB with my daughter.
We are both Singaporean.
I am the owner, and my daughter is the essential occupier.

Can my wife ( a 3rd year PR), purchase a resale HDB with our son?
My wife as the owner and our son as the essential occupier.

Hi
I regret to inform you that this is not allowed as HDB has a policy not to allow couples from owning a HDB each. For your son, if he is 35 and not yet married, he is eligible to purchase a resale under singles scheme. I am specialised in HDB transactions. Do contact me at 93375051  for a free and non obligatory discussions on this.

Hello Mr Chin!

Unfortunately, HDB will not allow your wife + son to purchase another housing unit. Mainly because each married couple is only allowed to have one HDB. If your wife is applying for a new flat or purchase a resale, HDB will require you to be listed together as you are married.

Under in special circumstances, you can try to write to HDB and appeal, however chances are silm.

Hope this helps! If you would like to chat about other alternatives that you can consider in your property planning. Feel free to reach out .

Hi Mr. Ong,

1) You and your wife formed a single entity in the eye of the HDB. This cannot be separated.
2) Your wife is automatically listed as the essential occupier of the HDB flat.
3) Therefore she cannot buy another resale HDB flat without withdrawing her essential occupier status from the current HDB flat.
4) The only way to remove her essential occupier status from the current HDB flat is only possible via a legal separation, passed on, or when the flat is sold.

Please give me a thumbs-up if the answer provided is relevant to your main concern. Thanks!!!

Hi Mr Ong,

Yes, it is possible. But your name will also be included as the essential occupier for that flat. This means that you will have to sell your current HDB flat too.

If you have the intentions to own 2 properties, then your Wife can purchase a private property instead. You need not sell off your HDB in this scenario.

I am experienced and well-versed in both HDB and private transactions. I will be able to assist you in your property plans. Please get in touch with me for a more in-depth discussion.

Should you need require further assistance in matters relating to property, please contact me at my mobile 9748 6305  . I will be happy to assess and share with you the possibilities for you in the current market. Read More
