I have a 4 room HDB and a condo flat. Even though it's 4 room flat but the unit is quite small. I stay in small unit of condo now and my parent stay in HDB. My parents is more than 80 years old and i wish to stay with them but do not plan to sell my condo as I hope to have passive income when I am retired. Can i write in to HDB to allow me to sell my current HDB and purchase bigger unit of HDB so that I can stay with my parents?

You can write in to HDB to appeal but it is almost 100% that it will be rejected. Unless you are able to purchase the bigger HDB in your parents' names and they have the financial means to purchase the bigger HDB.

    You are a multiple property owner now, the rules are clear that anyone who owns a private property will be required to sell off the private property and wait out for a period of 15 months before they are eligible to purchase a resale HDB unless they are aged 55 and above, then they are eligible to purchase 4 room HDB, which is what you already own now. Thus, if you are looking to purchase a bigger unit, the regulation is put up in black and white.

    HDB flats are public housing, meant to provide affordable housing options for Singaporeans and PRs, while I am aware that prices of HDB have been escalating. Many Singaporeans and PRs are struggling to even purchase their first HDB flat with the rising prices, and you are looking to be allowed to keep your condo while you purchase a bigger HDB.

Hi,

1) All owners and occupiers are not supposed to own any private residential property when buying an HDB flat be it a BTO/SBF or resale flat.
2) The above rule is clearly spelled under the eligibility of the HDB.
3) This is absolutely fine to sell your 4-room flat. But to buy another HDB flat while holding on to a private residential property is absolutely against the HDB policy.
4) You may appeal through the feedback channel if you have a strong and valid reason that the HDB must accept your appeal.
