Hi,

You would need to dispose all your overseas property before you can purchase another resale HDB. For BTO, you need to dispose overseas property and wait out 30 months before you can apply.

If you choose to keep the overseas property, then the only alternative will be to upgrade to private property.

Hi Sir,

As long as you form a valid family nucleus, you will be able to purchase a HDB flat.

If the property that you own in Malaysia is a residential property, then you will not be eligible to apply for a BTO, unless you sell off the property and wait out for 30 months. You will also have to meet the other eligibility conditions of applying for a BTO (i.e household income, first/second timer etc).

If the property in Malaysia is a non-residential property, then you can apply for a BTO provided you meet all the other eligibility conditions.

You will be eligible to purchase a resale HDB flat though. However, do take note that you will need to dispose off your Malaysia property (if it's a residential property) latest within 6 months upon your HDB resale flat purchase.

Should you wish to hold onto your Malaysia (residential) property, then the only choice for you would be to upgrade to a private property instead.

Hi, you could still be able to either downgrade or upgrade to resale flat as well as BTO, but would need to dispose off your overseas property.

Dear Sir,

In your case, it will be better to get a resale flat so that you can still hold on to your property in Malaysia. For BTO, HDB will need you to sell your overseas property and the waiting period for BTO construction is about 5 to 6 years. If you have taken a CPF housing grant before, you will also be subjected to the resale levy of 40k.

To upgrade smoothly and seamlessly, you will need to pay special attention to your cash flow and timeline planning. With careful planning, you are able to minimise your cash outlay and to transit smoothly from your current place to the new place without the need for an interim housing solution.
