I am switching my property agent. I am currently renting out my HDB flat and my tenants were found by my current agent. He did not give me the tenants number. The 2 year lease will expire in 2 months and I am living overseas. My question is do I have the right to get my tenant's number to see if they like to continue staying n the property? I will be engaging a new agent for a lease contract. What if my current agent refuses to give me the tenant"s number?

Hi Stella,

Curious why you are switching to another agent? Did you sign on the estate agent agreement with the existing agent and indicated that commission is applicable for renewal of lease? The agent does not have the right to refuse you the number, however, he/she maybe restricted by the PDPA in providing you the contact numbers if the tenants prefer to keep existing communication channel.

If existing tenants are good and willing to renew the lease, what is it to trigger you that you want a change?

Hi Stella,

As the landlord, you have every right to the tenants' contact details. If the tenants are not comfortable to give you their contact numbers, you may request for their emails instead and there is no reason for the current agent to refuse this request from the landlord.
