I am staying in a resale. 5 more years to MOP. Intend to apply for BTO. When should I apply? After I sell my flat? What if I want a project that is due for launch next year? Can I apply for it first? Do I sell then apply? But that would be too late as I would have to wait.

You are only eligible to apply for BTO or other residential properties after you have fulfilled your Minimum Occupation Period, even if the project is still under construction and may take the next 5 years to construct.

Hi,

1) This is the price we all have to pay when selecting an HDB flat as an option.
2) All owners of an HDB flat have to observe a Minimum Occupation Period (MOP) of 5 years.
3) The clock starts ticking at the point of key collection.
4) Any better housing options during this period have nothing to do with the HDB flat owners under MOP.
5) You are only eligible to apply for BTO after completion of the MOP.
6) Under the current HDB practice. You will be able to apply for an HFE once the MOP is completed.
7) You can then apply for a BTO/SBF after you receive the approved HFE letter.
8) You do not need to sell your flat until the BTO is ready for key collection.
