I am single, SC, 40 and I currently own 100% of my resale HDB flat that has met 5 years MOP. Can I sell sell 50% of my share to another Single, SC, 40 under resale part share, such that we both jointly own the HDB under joint singles program?

You may refer to the HDB website for the full eligibility criteria that both you and the other single would need to meet, to execute this resale of part-share smoothly:

It would be helpful to understand better why you are intending to execute this resale part-share, as the plan you are describing may not exactly be ideal for various other reasons.

Hi

You will have to check with HDB branch on the feasibility of this, for resale part share sale. Just wondering what is your main goal in doing so? Because typically in this scenario if the goal is to stay together, the other single will buy his/her own place, and rent out the existing flat of the other single for rental income.

The resale of partial shares in HDB generally occurs due to reasons such as divorce, death of an owner, marriage, a change in citizenship, or financial difficulties. The joint-single scheme is only applicable for new applications. Therefore, if you need to co-own a unit with another single Singaporean, you can apply for your HFE Letter under the joint-single scheme, sell your existing unit, and transition to a new one.
Alternatively, as suggested by my peers, submit an appeal letter to HDB.

1. **Partial resale of HDB shares** typically happens under specific situations like **divorce, death, marriage, citizenship change**, or **financial hardship**. It is **not a general option** available to all flat owners.

2. The **Joint Singles Scheme** only applies to **new flat applications**, not existing flats. If you and another single Singaporean wish to co-own a flat, you'll need to **sell your current unit**, apply for an **HFE Letter**, and **purchase a new flat together** under this scheme.

3. If your case falls outside standard policy, your next step would be to **submit a formal appeal to HDB** for special consideration.

The Joint Singles Scheme does allow two singles to jointly buy an HDB resale flat, but transferring partial ownership from an existing sole owner to another single is more complex and subject to HDB’s approval and eligibility rules.

There are restrictions on share transfers and you’d want to check if HDB allows a part-share transfer like that, as well as whether the other party meets all criteria for the scheme.

It’s best to check directly with HDB to understand what’s possible in your specific case.

Hi,

1) There is nothing wrong technically in your proposal.
2) I believed the HDB will ask what is the reason for doing so. You have to get prepared for it.
3) Since it is stated that at long as 2 individual age 35 and above can buy an HDB flat under Joint-Single scheme.
4) The buyer would have to apply for a HFE indicating that this is a part-share purchase.
5) The rest of the selling/buying procedures would be the same as a normal sale.
