I am pregnant for two months and looking to buy a hdb flat soon. However my pr husband has two properties in Malaysia. Does anyone know the chances of being able to appeal to HDB that we wish to be able to buy a HDB first while waiting for my husband Malaysia property to be sold later ? I dont really wish to wait for the 15 mth wait out period as I need more proper space for the baby.

All you can do is appeal and hope that your appeal is approved. Nothing much else you can do as this regulation has been in place for quite a while. The consideration for you will likely be to rent out for the next 2 years while liquidating the properties in Malaysia in order to be eligible to purchase 15 months after the sale.

Alternatively, the consideration is to purchase a private residential property, being the first residential property matrimonial home, ABSD applicable on SPR will be remissible.

A total of 1,284 private property owners have appealed against the 15-month wait-out period to buy a Housing Board resale flat since the rule kicked in end-September 2022. HDB has processed 902 appeals, and about 38% of them were successful

Honestly, your chances are very very slim. HDB rarely gives exceptions especially when your spouse own two properties. I have cases where they do not even allow elderly parents living in your overseas apartment. They want you to sell and wait for 15 months.

Your best bet is to buy an older and larger private apartment outside the CBD, which will appreciate better than HDB resale properties in the longer term.

It’s understandable you’re eager to find a bigger space for your growing family. HDB usually requires applicants not to own private property locally or overseas when buying a new flat, and there’s typically a wait-out period if you need to sell existing properties.

Appeals can be made, but success isn’t guaranteed and depends on individual circumstances and HDB’s discretion.
